Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Castle Rock, CO - State Senate candidate Mark Scheffel celebrated with family and friends this evening as his primary election victory became evident at the first wave returns. Scheffel ultimately received 65.33% of the primary vote, exceeding the 65.26% delegate support he earned at the Senate District 4 Assembly, held Friday, May 30.
Scheffel was the only candidate of the four candidates nominated during the Assembly to achieve at least 30% of the delegate vote, the minimum required to access the ballot. Bob Denny of Monument, who petitioned separately on to the ballot, faced Scheffel in the August 12 primary.
“Thank you to everyone who took time to research the candidates and vote in the primary. This district is solidly Republican and your overwhelming support serves notice that conservative values have a home and a voice in Senate District 4,” said Scheffel.
According to final returns provided by the county clerks, Scheffel received 68.66% of the vote in Douglas County; 59.38% in El Paso County; 77.24% in Lake County; 63.46% in Park County, and 63.37% in Teller County.
Given higher population density, voters in Douglas and El Paso counties accounted for 83% of the Republican votes cast in the Senate District 4 primary. Scheffel added, “While my team and I are grateful for the large number of Republicans who voted in Douglas and El Paso, I’m particularly grateful to those in Lake, Park, and Teller counties who took time to vote in the primary. You are a vital part of this large and diverse district and I will strive to represent you well in the Colorado Senate.”

Westminister, CO- State Senate candidate Mark Scheffel recieved 65.26% of the vote at the Senate District 4 Assembly held today as part of the two-day State Republican Convention in Westminister. Scheffel was the only candidate of the four nominated during the Assembly to achieve at least 30% of the delegate vote, the minimum required to access the ballot.
During his acceptance speech, Scheffel thanked his many supporters, including Congressman Tom Tancredo (R, CO-6) and former Congressman Joel Hefley (R, CO-5), both of whom endorsed Scheffel leading into the Assembly. "I am grateful for the support and endorsements we have received from elected officials and party leadership from all five counties in the district, " said Scheffel. Senate District 4 includes parts of Douglas, El Paso, Lake, Park, and Teller counties.

As part of his endorsement letter, Congressman Tancredo said of Scheffel, "I know Mark Scheffel shares my determination to enforce our laws and protect our borders against those who would threaten the sovereignty or the very existence of our nation." Delegates were impressed with Tancredo's straightforward perspective on Scheffel and responded enthusiastically with their vote.
Of Scheffel's opponents today, Ed Brewer received 25.10% of the vote; Randy Reed received 7.18%; and Mark Vanderbilt received 2.39%
