Republican Candidate for State Senate

Fellow Republican,

Have you had enough of the Democrat’s constant push for more and higher taxes, fees, and regulation of business?  As State Senator, I will stand against the Democrat’s constant push to tax prosperity in order to pay for more government. Let’s recall George Washington’s wise counsel, "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”  While Democrats ask how government can best solve a problem, my starting point on any given issue is to ask whether government should be involved at all.

As a small business owner, I am frustrated with the unprecedented growth in our state government over the first two years of the Ritter administration.  Our State government has focused on regulation – increased costs and rules for law-abiding business people – rather than aggressively enforcing the law against criminals.  As State Senator, I will stand for the rights of law-abiding citizens, and against socialist pressures for government to protect us from ourselves.  Freedom and liberty are made whole when government removes itself from the lives of “We the People.”

Accountability to God is the foundation of my life and my campaign for State Senate.  I approach this opportunity with a heart for service and the humble knowledge that I am accountable for every word, every thought, and every action.  There’s something wrong when our constitutional republic restricts prayer, limits the right to self-protection, and panders to non-citizens at our expense. I will relentlessly press our state government to remove itself from infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens, to protect our borders, and enforce immigration law.

I believe that life begins at conception. I believe that marriage is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God.  Cheri and I take seriously our rights and responsibilities as parents. I will fight for vouchers and school choice, including charter and home school alternatives.  I will attend to the critical transportation and water needs in our district. These are legitimate roles for our state government, yet we’re told that there isn’t enough money to adequately fund roads, bridges, and reservoirs.

Let’s work to get government out of the way, to allow more Coloradoans more opportunity to prosper, and direct our state government to get back to basics.

Thank you for being involved in this important process.  I would be grateful for your vote.

Respectfully yours,

mark scheffel
